IBM Content Cortex for FileNet
Make your existing FileNet content ready for AI. Understand what Content Cortex adds to your FileNet environment, what you already have in place, and what you need to move forward.

Understand where the new name applies.
IBM Content Cortex brings enterprise content management and AI access into the same platform.
In Cloud Pak for Business Automation 26.0.0, IBM renamed the FileNet Content Manager capability to IBM Content Cortex. That's a specific upgrade path. A stand-alone FileNet, Content Manager OnDemand or Content Manager Enterprise Edition deployment still needs its own technical review.
Confirm the edition and components you need.
Content Cortex can help make FileNet content more accessible and usable for AI-driven capabilities, but the results depend on having the right FileNet configuration, content structure, metadata, and supporting components in place. Before moving forward, review your FileNet version, repositories, content types, metadata, security model, and integration requirements to identify any gaps and determine what needs to be configured or upgraded.
Connect useful AI capabilities to your content.
Start with the task you want to improve, then confirm the content, access controls and components it needs. IBM lists AI-related capabilities in Essentials; the edition name alone doesn't settle your requirements.
Governed AI access
Remote MCP Server uses Model Context Protocol to give supported AI tools a standard way to reach enterprise content. Check access and configuration for the tools you plan to use.
Content controls
Enterprise Security and Governance, together with Retention and Disposition, supports control of access and content lifecycle. Review those controls across the connected environment.
Archiving
Intelligent Archiving provides an option for long-term content. Check whether it fits your source repository, retrieval needs and retention obligations.
Enterprise content experience behind your plan.
DAS is one of the top IBM FileNet partners in the US. Our FileNet SMEs have an average tenure of 19 years working with the platform.
Plan from the release you run today.
Your installed release gives us a starting point. We check component versions and the features your applications use.
FileNet Content Manager 5.5.x
Standard support ends September 30, 2026.Next step
Review the supported upgrade path and dependencies before choosing the next step.
FileNet Content Manager 5.6.0
End of Life has been announced. FileNet components, Content Platform Engine (CPE) 5.6 and IBM Content Navigator (ICN) 3.1, enter extended support September 30, 2027. End-of-Life has been announced for September 2031.
Next step
Review the supported version path and dependencies before choosing a project date.
FileNet Content Manager 5.7.0
IBM lists the end of fix support as TBD, not earlier than September 30, 2028. Usage support is TBD. Its Core Content Services MCP Server is available to deploy and configure.Next step
Check whether the MCP component is installed and configured, and confirm what the target Content Cortex configuration requires.
Cloud Pak for Business Automation 26.0.0
The FileNet Content Manager capability uses the Content Cortex name after upgrade.
Next step
Verify the completed upgrade, component compatibility and any changed or removed features before adopting new capabilities.
Agree on the scope before the change starts.
Start with a complimentary environment review to scope the work. If a detailed assessment is needed, we agree its access requirements, deliverables and terms before it starts.
Assess the environment
Document repositories, content models, integrations and retention obligations. Identify dependencies and the issues that need attention before an upgrade or content move.
Define the path
Confirm supported versions, licensing and the target configuration. Establish what stays, what changes and how the work will be tested.
Test with representative content
Use a staging environment or an agreed pilot to check the migration route, permissions, metadata and application behavior. Resolve findings before the production change.
Plan the change and support
Agree the change window, validation checks and rollback criteria. Define who supports each system during the work and after handover.
Check the route and what must change.
An upgrade and a repository migration are different pieces of work. DAS checks whether content needs to move, which tools fit the supported source and target, and what the transfer must preserve.
Content transfer
Map the required content, metadata, permissions and history, then test and validate the agreed route. Where DASmigrate fits that route, it can form part of the migration plan.
Configuration and integrations
Check configuration and object-definition moves separately from bulk content transfer. Review application dependencies and replacement options for any removed or deprecated features.
For the teams responsible for enterprise content.
When retention obligations, integrations and service availability shape your change windows, your Content Cortex plan needs to account for them. DAS works with organizations in these sectors.
Questions about your Content Cortex plan.
In Cloud Pak for Business Automation 26.0.0, it's the new name for the FileNet Content Manager capability. For an existing environment, the important next step is checking the supported path, components and entitlement that apply to you.
IBM lists AI-related capabilities in Essentials. The edition and any additional products you need depend on the use case. Confirm feature availability and entitlement with IBM before putting them in scope.
FileNet Content Manager 5.7.0 provides a Core Content Services MCP Server that can be deployed and configured. Check whether it's already running in your environment. We also verify the component requirements of the target Content Cortex configuration.
It is an initial review of your environment and Content Cortex plans to help scope the next step. Before a detailed assessment begins, we agree the work, access requirements and deliverables. Any written technical report and its terms are part of that scope.
No. Plan against your release's support status and the requirements of your environment. The product announcement alone doesn't establish your project date. The starting-point section above explains the published support position; DAS can help you review the next step.
Start by confirming whether your path is an upgrade, a content move or both. DAS then selects the tools for the approved source and target and tests the result. Configuration changes and content transfer are planned separately where needed.
Review the access rules, retention requirements and audit evidence across the repository and the connected tools. The technical assessment should verify the controls your use case needs. DAS checks the evidence each component produces and how deletion and retention requirements are implemented.
DAS can scope support for your existing environment and the transition. We'll define responsibilities, escalation and the handover so your team knows who to contact at each stage.
