What is Tungsten Automation Capture?
Tungsten Automation Capture, usually shortened to Tungsten Capture, is the enterprise document capture platform formerly sold as Kofax Capture. It takes documents in at production scale — scanned paper, email, faxes, e-forms, and files from other systems — classifies them, extracts the data on them, and delivers clean, validated information into your ECM, ERP, or line-of-business systems.

Kofax Capture is now Tungsten Capture.
Kofax became Tungsten Automation on January 16, 2024, and the capture product came along: Kofax Capture is now Tungsten Capture, and Kofax TotalAgility is now Tungsten TotalAgility. If you run Kofax Capture today, you are already a Tungsten customer, whether or not anyone told you.
The rename did not break your environment. Your batch classes, validation stations, custom scripts, and downstream integrations keep working, because the product underneath is the same line. What did change is where the road leads: releases, support lifecycles, and the product roadmap now ship under the Tungsten name, and staying on an old Kofax-era release means aging out of that support path a version at a time.
That is the real decision hiding behind the rebrand: which supported Tungsten release should your Kofax investment land on, and when. That is the question our consultation answers.
How document capture works, end to end.
Document capture software earns its keep in the gap between "a document arrived" and "the data is in the system." Tungsten Capture closes that gap in five steps, and knowing them is the fastest way to evaluate any capture platform, ours included.
Ingest
Documents enter from scanners, multifunction devices, email inboxes, fax, folders, and APIs. High-volume environments run this in batches, thousands of pages at a time.
Classify
The system identifies what each document is — an invoice, a claim form, an application — so it can be routed and processed by type automatically.
Separate and extract
Pages get split into documents, and the fields that matter are read off each one. Machine learning improves accuracy as operators correct it, with no hand-built template per form.
Validate
Extracted data is checked against business rules and, where needed, routed to a validation station for human review. This step decides whether downstream systems can trust what capture sends.
Deliver
Clean, indexed data and images release into FileNet, SharePoint, TotalAgility workflows, or whatever system acts on them.
In production, the measure that matters is the straight-through rate: the share of documents that flow from ingest to delivery with no human touch. Every step above exists to push that number up while accuracy holds, and tuning that balance is most of what a good capture implementation is.

Version move
